Charlotte, North Carolina, has been home to many brave individuals who honorably served our country. From the earliest settlers of the area to the many veterans who now live in the city and call Charlotte their home, it is with great pride that we recognize these patriotic individuals by celebrating their rich history at Veterans Memorial Park. Established in 1969, Charlotte dedicated Veterans Memorial Park to those who selflessly served the United States of America in times of war and peace. The park was created to honor the lives and memories of those who have served and died in service to our country. This private and public collaborative project provides active duty, reserve, guard, and veteran service members a place to remember and appreciate their brave sacrifices and contributions. The park's main attraction is the many memorials and monuments honoring those who have served our country. The Vietnam War Memorial Wall is a powerful and moving reminder of the cost of war. The artist Richard Lillies created this sculpture to honor those who lost their lives in the conflict and remind us of brave Americans' sacrifices. Additionally, the park has a statue of General William C. Lee, the founder of the U.S. Airborne. This is a tribute to one of the twentieth century's most influential and inspiring military leaders. The park is also home to several murals that depict various aspects of our military history. These murals serve as a visual way to remember the significant effects of war on those who served and those impacted by service members’ bravery. The striking murals complete the aesthetic and draw attention to how vital the contributions of military service are. In addition to the monuments and murals, Veterans Memorial Park also houses a museum. At the museum, visitors can explore an extensive collection of photographs, documents, artifacts, and memorabilia related to the history and culture of the military in the United States. Images, audio and video documentaries, and interactive displays educate visitors about military life and experience. The museum also honors individual service members with special exhibits dedicated to their service and achievements. Learn more about Mouthwatering Meals at RedEye Diner - Try it Out.
